Anthony Callea, one of Australia’s most loved and respected recording artists enjoyed another career milestone with his sixth album, BACKBONE rocketing straight to number one on debut on the ARIA Albums Chart in September 2016.
Anthony’s self-titled debut album hit number one back in April 2005. Eleven years on and Australian audiences are still in awe of his powerhouse vocal, embracing the wonderful collection of songs that Anthony has brought together on BACKBONE.
BACKBONE showcases Anthony’s voice to perfection as he delivers an utterly flawless take on some of his favourite songs from the ‘80s and ’90 – classics like ‘Man In The Mirror’ from Michael Jackson, Britney Spears’ ‘Sometimes’, ‘Fantasy’ from Blackbox, ‘King of Wishful Thinking’ from Go West and Steve Winwood’s ‘Higher Love’. The album also contains an original composition, the title track BACKBONE, which Anthony wrote in L.A. earlier this year.
Teaming up with Sony’s head of A&R Ross Fraser and producer James Roche, Anthony took the songs right back to basics with the assistance of a grand piano, and then built them up again into stunning arrangements. The result is an album of hits filled with warmth and maturity.
No stranger to chart-topping success, Anthony launched his career in 2004 with debut single ‘The Prayer’. ‘The Prayer’ became the fastest-selling single by an Australian artist with sales in excess of 4 x platinum and an incredible 5-week ARIA Singles chart-topping run. His 2005 self-titled release claimed double-platinum accreditation and held the ARIA Album chart Number 1 position for 3 weeks.
Since then Anthony has developed a reputation as one of Australia’s great entertainers, playing countless live shows across the country, and alongside some of the world most talented vocalists including Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Diana Ross and fellow Australian, Tina Arena.
