Biography
Renowned for their emotional lyricism and powerful stage presence,
Perth-based outfit Joan & The Giants have been captivating audiences
with their distinctive brand of alt-pop.
The band began with partners and longtime collaborators Grace
Newton-Wordsworth and Aaron Birch, who formed Joan & The Giants
in 2019. Coming together from different backgrounds, Aaron from a
remote Indigenous community in the Kimberley and Grace from a farm
down South of WA, the couple are now based in Perth with band
members Riley Sutton and Liam Olsen.
No strangers to the spotlight, Joan & The Giants have headlined Shinju
Matsuri Festival to over 7000 people, supported Odette on the WA leg
of her 2019 ‘Lotus Eaters’ tour, had rave reviews and airplay on Triple J,
performed at Nannup Music Festival in 2020 / 2021 and received
multiple nominations in last year’s prestigious International Songwriting
Competition alongside artists such as Missy Higgins, Eskimo Joe and
more. Most recently they have been nominated in two seperate
categories of the WA Music Awards 2022 for ’Folk’ and ‘Outstanding
Indigenous’ and their latest singles ‘Slow Motion’ and ‘Home Song’
spent numerous weeks on the AMRAP Metro charts.
